Google Adsense: The "Don't"s
Google Adsense is the most used, most effective and most trusted of all the pay-per-click (PPC) revenue generation streams on the internet. Anything tagged by the almighty Google, the key to so many internet marketing hopes, is generally seen as a good thing - and Adsense most definitely is.
Yet Adsense can be a tricky beast. Any internet marketing forum will have members telling tales of their Adsense account being banned "for no reason". Many of these stories may be true - like any company, Google is fallible and can make mistakes - but often, people are using practices that are against the Adsense terms and conditions. Here's what you need to avoid to keep your Adsense account, and your internet marketing career, active:
- Don't click your own ads.
It seems so simple, it seems so tempting... but get caught, and Google will ban you. Not just from Adsense, but from their search engine, too. No matter how much a couple of clicks here and there on your own ads may bring you, this isn't a sustainable way of making money, and the consequences are dire.
- Don't encourage visitors to click ads.
If you have incentives (such as "to read our exclusive new content, click one of the ads below!") that encourage visitors to click your Adsense ads. If Google spots this, you'll be banned immediately, with no recourse or debate.
- Don't use Adsense where you shouldn't be using it.
For example, using Adsense of adult, gambling or similar sites is against the Adsense terms and conditions. Break those, and Google will break your account, and perhaps your IM career.
Google isn't a monster. Play within its rules, and your Adsense career should flourish.
