Bad Dates
The nature of dating is something that has been the subject of many books, countless magazine articles, and more films and sitcoms than one could even begin to count. Very rarely, in a sitcom, will a first date be “good”. You will see the couple make awkward conversation, accidentally insult one another, speak for too long about ex-partners or make an idiot of themselves in one way or another. This is not exactly helpful for someone about to embark on a period of dating, and all the more so if they have a troubled dating history of their own.
It is worth accepting, however, that sometimes you will have a date that does not go as you might have hoped. The fact that one must remember about dating is that many people go through a lot of unsuitable dating partners before meeting the person who they will stay with for years and possibly for life. It is also fair to say that even if the first date doesn’t go as well as you had hoped, there is no reason to give up on things if you think you might be well suited. You can find that a beautiful relationship is possible even from the most unpromising of beginnings.
On balance, bad first dates do tend to be last dates. If one of the people involved does or says something clearly offensive, talks about their ex a lot (in any way – praise sounds inappropriate, criticism sounds bitter) or just makes a really bad impression, it is to be expected that the relationship will end quickly.
