Backlinking: Don’t Be Tempted By Short Cuts

One of the most important things to get a website in the full view of search engines is getting linked to by other sites. This is common sense, of course. If a site is linked to by a number of other sites, then the chances are that there is a reason for that, and that people will be keen to read in order to find out what that reason is. Therefore, the more links that are extant on the web pointing to your site, the better for you. If you have a basic understanding of SEO, you might be thinking that placing your link everywhere you can make it stick is a good idea. It is not.

People make the mistake of thinking that any link is a good link, and for this reason link bank sites have sprung up all over the place. Put your link here, and Google will see it, they tell you. However, Google does not just see links, it sees busy links. Hardly anyone visits link bank sites looking for a site to visit and read so your link placed on these sites will not be busy, it will just sit there. Additionally, Google doesn’t like link banks, and downrates them accordingly.

Additionally, posting your link all over online forums or in comments on another person’s blog will not endear you to the regulars or sitemasters of those sites. In actual fact, it will probably lead to you being banned from the site and your link being edited out of the post. It will certainly not become busy, and will not win you favor with search engines.
