Twittiquette
A lot of people who use Twitter, especially in their early days on the site, will make more enemies than friends with the way they carry out their tweeting and reading of the site. It needs to be borne in mind that people just starting out have less idea how things go on a site like Twitter, and need to bear in mind the etiquette of the site.
If you @reply someone and they do not respond, then take it in your stride. Some people have thousands of followers and get countless @replies, some of which will inevitably fall through the gaps. Do not follow up with further replies asking why they are ignoring you. You will come across either as angry or needy, and neither goes down well.
If someone protects their Tweets – that is, the only allow certain people access to see them – do not re-tweet them if they have allowed you access. This is against the spirit of the site. They want to share their words with people they have selected, so don’t select more people on their behalf.
If someone asks for help finding information on their feed, don’t just tell them to Google it. If they know about Twitter, they probably know about Google. Google is not infallible and sometimes won’t have the results they were after. If you can help them, do so. If you can’t, shut up. It takes more energy and causes more annoyance to be rude to someone than it does to just ignore them. Simple!
